“I physically shuddered when I saw the photograph with the shadow. It was visceral and unexpected. And yet everything about it captured my experience.” The shadow is not only a dark reminder of the shame and lack of communication about the abuse between them, but a reassurance of his lingering presence in her life. “We’re all in a different place on our journeys. Respect and support is what we need, no matter where we are.”
