SEEN Survivors is a first-of-its-kind collection of photographs from 18 victim-survivors of sexual assault. Each person tells their story of trauma and recovery through the lens of documentary photographer, Dan Heller.

Guided by the subjects’ personal visions, aspirations, and imaginations, Heller collaborates with each person to create images expressing triumphs over turmoil and self-doubt to reclaim a sense of power, purpose, clarity, and meaning. Each image illuminates a journey of struggle and hope, revealing intimate moments when subjects restore agency over personal narratives and physical space.

As a collection, these compelling and sometimes surprising portraits present a tableau of strength and courage, one which offers its own possibilities for inspiration, growth, and healing.

I’m very impressed by this book. I love that the stories focus on healing and not the trauma itself. The photography is stunning. You can tell there was an intentionality with capturing and selecting each photo. What a great resource for other survivors and their support system to see that, no matter what, there is hope.
